The Helping Hand Foundation
has a unique mission of offering one-time grants to individuals who
are confronted by adversity but who do not qualify for assistance
through existing agencies or organizations. It was the dream of the
Founder to create a foundation run by volunteers with
a zero operating budget that would benefit Kansas City.
Since the creation of the Helping Hand Foundation in January 2003,
it has had an impact far beyond anything envisioned at that time.
The
foundation has processed thousands of applications and has made
grants to individuals and families across all ages, races, religions,
socio-economic boundaries and physical limitations. The grants helped
individuals maintain their independence and families to bridge the
gap between a crisis situation and their ability to move on.
The contagious nature of service stimulated others to find creative
ways to identify need and help our neighbors in Kansas City. Nominations
for grants have come from caring employers, compassionate teachers,
alert firemen, social service agencies and clergy.
The Helping Hand Foundation has experienced the power of cooperation
with caring businesses throughout the metro area that have generously
donated services and equipment:
· Physicians and dentists reducing fees and offering services pro-bono
· Plumbers and electricians donating services
· Suppliers donating equipment
· Landlords forgiving penalties
· The list goes on...
